Friday Favorites: Writing Snacks

NaNoPiBoNaNoPiBoNaNoPiBoNaNoPiBoNaNo......

Yeah. The drive to create has taken over. And who can create without brain food?

So I thought I'd conduct an informal survey amongst my writerly bloggy-friends, and find out what everyone keeps their mouths happy with while their fingers are busy typing away. I'm trying to be healthy while my butt is glued to my desk chair, so I'm switching it up by munching tortilla chips with salsa (YUM!) or guacamole (double YUM!), or snacking on dried fruit and nuts (also YUM!), or chewing gum (makes my jaw hurt after a couple of pages).

(Yes, I just marked time by the number of pages typed.  Oy.)

How about you?  What is your writing snack of choice?

  1. I love what you mentioned. I will add that I like turkey lunch meat with cheese and crackers. This is a healthy alternative depending on the crackers and the amount eaten at one sitting. No mayo between bread slices.

  2. I try my hardest not to snack unless it's mealtime. But if I do it's a granola bar. :)

  3. I'm weird. I'm too obsessive when I write. No eating and no music. Maybe a drink but even that is rare.

  4. I vote for chocolate! Gail has the right idea. I also have iced tea handy. I tend to get dehydrated when I write for hours.

  6. just water. snaking is bad for you! If you have to,snack on a beautiful veiw out your window, or a picture of your MC. Alternately, you can snack on a few of your favorite blogs!

  7. Sounds like some yummy snacks! Love the tortilla chips and lately I've been craving mango salsa or black bean and corn salsa. Trailmix is always up there for a healthier choice (yes, I just said m&m's are healthy). If I want to cheat the healthy scale though I go for candy or ice cream.

  8. Chocolate chips. Since I need both hands to type, I can pop a few in and suck on them while I write.

  9. Wow - you guys are really snacking in style! (Except for Matt - you're not snacking at all. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in the writing I forget to eat, which is why I feel like I should have snacks handy. Otherwise, I might just shrink away until all that was left was a pile of hair.)

I must admit that chocolate chips used to be my snack of choice, until I figured out that they were giving me migraines. Boo. I still sneak a few once in a while, though; it takes a lot to get to the migraine stage, so as long as I stay disciplined and don't down half the bag (which I have been known to do - don't judge) I'm good.

Love those salsa and dip ideas. Off to the kitchen to rummage in the cupboards...

    Thanks for sharing, guys!

  10. I love, love, love snacking on whole almonds while I write. I've tried chips, popcorn and fruit, but it always left me with a greasy keyboard and crumbs everywhere!

and when I'm dieting I drink loads of water instead. (or herbal tea in winter)

  12. Nathalie, almonds - yum! And yeah, greasy-keyboard syndrome is definitely something to be avoided at all costs!
